Sun n' Knitting

This past weekend we had the opportunity to go on an amazing family vacation to San Diego. So fun and relaxing, not to mention a wonderful break from real life. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa!!

Here are a few of our favorite pictures from the trip.

My loves
Gulls-You're rats with wings!
Uncle Rick takes the boys out for a bit of sailing.
Grandparents surrounded by the love of their grand babies.

Since we were in the area, we had to go visit "our" lighthouse. This is where my sweetie asked me to marry him just over twelve years ago. We returned to take engagement pictures and again the day after our wedding for some beautiful wedding pictures, but since the kids were born we haven't had a chance to return until now. Everyone was feeling quite tired from all the fun we had been having, but we still had a great time seeing this very special place...this time as a family!

Lorelai, Eeyore, and Kellen with San Diego in the background.

Father and son checking out the view.
The kids look so tiny next to the big lighthouse.

and onto the knitting...
hot off the needles- The Tooth Trader

Lorelai's Tooth fairy doll is finished! Knitting the individual pieces wasn't bad at all, but putting it all together was quite a bit of work. Lorelai named her Rose and she does have wings as well, but Lorelai decided she would prefer them to not be on. All the work is done so if she ever changes her mind then I can just sew them on... maybe until then she is just a tooth princess. The second tooth is very soon to come out so the princess will be waiting.

Harvest

Today's harvest from our garden

Thanks to the bounty from our garden I enjoyed a delicious raw lunch today (aside from some parmesan slices). Every day the kids are so excited to see what is ready for harvest. Usually, it is several handfuls of tomatoes and some kale, but sometimes we get other fun surprises-like blackberries or in the case of today  grapes and apples.

The first apples are ready from our Anna Apple tree-planted last year.

Still maybe a wee bit sour, but not so much so that the kids and I didn't enjoy a bunch today. Another week or so and these should be just about perfect.

Green Tea Leaf Headband

Originally knit for me, but Lorelai loved it so much that now we share it. I will be making another one a little smaller for her... oh and in pink of course.
This was a quick knit- mostly to give me something lighter and fun to do before taking on the task of seaming many, many little knit tooth fairy doll pieces together. I began knitting the tooth fairy when Lorelai's tooth started to loosen with the hopes of finishing in time and I was oh so close, but nature had another plan. Her second tooth is now loose as well so we are looking forward to having a tooth fairy doll to go along with the next big event.
Changes

There have been  many new and exciting changes since my last post...and the most important of these is that the kids turned six!

As "big kids" they have transitioned from their toddler beds to a brand new bunkbed.

Although, they still find ways to be close

which reminds me very much of when they were wee ones

Also to commemorate her new grown up status Lorelai lost her first tooth!

Oops! Did someone forget to update this thing?

Apologies to all of our readers...
Out on safari we've been, but the desert is heating up so it's time to head indoors and do a bit of writing about some of the adventures we've had. ; )
Here are some pictures from our most recent expedition with Grandma and Grandpa to The Living Desert Museum.

I love old bi-planes. D snapped this picture for me using the zoom from our little Canon (click on picture to see a bigger version).

Spring is here and the desert flora could not be more beautiful.

An important mission of this trip was to show Grandpa the absolutely amazing G-Scale model train display
.

The customers were lining up at Lorelai's Salon

Lorelai is nuts about horses followed closely by giraffes so we got lucky when we caught the giraffe feeding.

Shhh! We must be very quiet, there is a baby giraffe near

This way to the Fair

Last week we went to the fair for our first homeschooling field trip. It was really nice to get out of the house and do some learning elsewhere. The kids learned how to milk a goat (so cute) and all about honeybees in addition to studying the various animals that can be found at the fair.
Here are some pictures from our day:

Sweet Little Honey

Kellen immediately claimed this goat as his own

Goat Love

Of course we had to check out the old time fire equipment

We had fun with all the silly photo taking boards. Here's our little cowboy and his prize winning cow.

Pomona Gothic

Nesting Behavior

The cutest scarecrow in all of Pomona

Hey, sis want to come with me to the fair again next year? You bet!

Next time... Pictures from our trip to the Miramar Air Show!
